Can your pee tell if you are diabetic?
Some of the practices that man has developed after his many learning experiences are amazing. Sometimes I wonder if the modern man who is so reliant on the modern advancements and technology, can demonstrate some simple common sense that our ancestors showed by using nature around us so much effectively.
One of the most fascinating stories I learnt was how some of the rural doctors, called NaaTi Vaidyas, used the simple functioning of the nature to diagnose if an individual had Diabetes or not. Seems quite obvious after you read it.
A land area that is rich in some kind of black ants is selected and the patient is made to pee near an ant burrow. If the patient's urine had excessive sugar, then that attracts the ants from the burrows. The ants usually line up around the wetness of the pee and eat the sugar in the urine. This tells the vaidya if the patient is diabetic or not. Not sure if this also tells the vaidya about the extent of the sugar content.
I have not witnessed this directly, but I will try to find out more about this the next time I visit India. Maybe, if someone has tried this, you can share your experience with us in the comments section.
